Making a Splash from Seattle

About this time two years ago, something lit a fire in me. I’d been involved in Never Settle for about a year already, donating here and there and occasionally talking to Jeremy about upcoming projects. When I heard there was a non-profit benefit for one of Never Settle’s partners in my area, I was intrigued. I signed up. It was a benefit for Splash, a Seattle-based organization dedicated to providing clean water for children around the world. Although I didn’t know a single person in the room, I was welcomed like an old friend, quickly getting ushered from person to […]

Investing in Haitian Leaders

One of the most effective ways to create sustainable real world change is by investing in leaders. Why? Because leadership matters, especially in the poorest of areas where there is a lack of clean water, education, mentoring, and other opportunities you and I have access to every day. This is especially true in Haiti where more than half of the population lives on less than $1 per day. Many poor Haitian communities depend on leadership from the church to provide daily needs. The community expectation of church pastors is much higher than in the United States. Haitian Pastors are more […]

TIME Person of the Year: Ebola Fighters

Dr. Kent Brantly, Samaritan’s Purse doctor that contracted the life-threatening Ebola in West Africa, is honored as TIME Person of the Year. Brantly became the face of Ebola when he was transported back to the United States from Liberia and treated at Emory Hospital in Atlanta. This honor is for all the Ebola fighters on the front lines battling this terrible disease every day. Kent Brantly is a family friend of mine and throughout this ordeal I have watched the character and faith of this man remain steadfast. On October 11 at a Samaritan’s Purse Medical Conference Brantly said this, […]

Operation Whipcrack: Team Rubicon responds to Typhoon Hagupit

A massive Category 3 typhoon made landfall in the central Philippines late Saturday. The entire area is being battered with heavy rains and winds just one year after Super Typhoon Haiyan devastated the region. Typhoon Hagupit, meaning “lash” in Filipino, came ashore on eastern Samar Island just before 10 p.m. (9 a.m. ET) with winds of 205 kph (127 mph) — the equivalent of a Category 3 hurricane. About 40 million people are in the path of the storm’s winds. Though the storm will weaken as it moves over land, it is expected to remain a typhoon before it moves […]
