I had the pleasure of watching my four-year old grandson, Lucas, this week. He was washing his hands after playing outside and seemed to be in no hurry to finish! I said to him, good job, Lucas, now turn off the water. He said, I’m still washing my hands, Mimi! I went downstairs for a few minutes and then returned only to find him still washing his hands with the water running at full force. I went and turned off the faucet and told him that we have to be careful with our water because most kids don’t have access to clean water like we do.
He wanted to know more so I began to tell him a story about kids in Cambodia and other places all over the world that don’t have faucets in their houses like we do. They have to go in search of water and often walk miles every day only to find water that is brown and not safe to drink like ours. I explained to him how Never Settle cares about all of these kids and is trying to help make a difference.

Lucas has a soft heart and he was visibly concerned about these kids and you could see him thinking hard about what to do. He then said something I will never forget. “Mimi, I have a great idea! Why don’t YOU tell me how I can help Never Settle bring clean water to the children?” What a profound question. His compassionate heart was ready to take action but he didn’t know what to do. It wasn’t up to him. It was up to me. He wanted to help but didn’t know how.

I think a lot of us are like Lucas. We hear the stories. We see the pictures. We know there is great need in the world, and we want to help. We want to make a difference. We just don’t know how. Never Settle bridges that gap. We take your willingness to help and couple it with amazing partners on the ground and that equals real world change. The strategy is there. Real solutions are available. All that’s needed are people willing to take action and say enough is enough, I’m going to do something about it. It’s not everyone else’s responsibility. It’s ours.
Every single child on the planet deserves the right to access to clean water. Not just my grandson and not just yours but every single child deserves that right. But it will never happen if we look to everyone else to fix the problem. There are easy ways to fundraise and donate and even have fun while you are doing it. But we can’t leave the water running down the drain any longer. It’s up to us to teach the next generation about the water crisis and then do something about it. It’s up to you and its up to me.
